hot day, boring knitting

When it hits 90 degrees one week before the pool opens, there is nothing better than running through the sprinkler in the front yard.

Followed by popsicle treats:

...and also, if I am to be totally honest, ample TV time in the air conditioned house while I get dinner ready early. Sigh. Parenting fail, I know.

I have my reasons, though, one of which is that I need the kids to have enough energy for a birthday shindig this evening. Our friend Lydia is turning 1 tomorrow, so the family has invited some folks over for dessert and low-key celebrating before all the kids crash at bedtime. Mine got up before 5:30 this morning, so I'm not sure how long they will last.

I knit a sweater for the occasion:

You just can't go wrong with these kids' patterns from Knitting Pure and Simple, if you ask me. I own so many patterns from KPS, and nearly all are variations on the same thing, just using different yarn weights and sizing. This particular sweater is the baby tunic #211 (top row, middle picture, if you click on that link) in the largest size, which is 24 months. Little Lydia is a good healthy size, and if today's weather is any indication, she won't be needing a long-sleeved hoodie for several months!

I used Spud and Chloe sweater, which is about half and half superwash wool and organic cotton. It feels wonderfully soft, and it can be washed in the machine, making it one of my new favorite yarns for kids' stuff. It is a little pricey, but for good reason, I think. I kind of wished I'd picked a more girly color, since the design is so plain, but I do like this deep teal. Her mother can pick a fancier button if she likes, I suppose!

That's really all I've got to say about that...do the cute kid pictures make up for the boring sweater?

Beee-youtiful. I love it. Also, I think, for the record, that you give yourself too hard a time over a little tv. Also, that I really like commas. , , ,,,
