Handwarmers for friends
My good friend C is exceedingly generous and thoughtful. I know her from my knitting group, and she's the type of person who always remembers everybody's birthday and gives thoughtful gifts for the occasion, but she doesn't want people to make a fuss about her birthday, so she tries to keep it a secret (we found out anyway). She contributed many hats to the Afghans for Afghans newborn hat campaign. She sometimes hosts our knitting group at her house to make it easier for those of us with little children. She came over to watch Daniel for a couple hours when I was in the hospital after Anya was born so that Stuart could come alone to see us; in fact, she was all ready to come over with a basket full of toys and games to keep Daniel entertained while I was in labor, but the neighbors took him in so that turned out to be unnecessary.
Right after Anya and I got home from the hospital, of course, I hardly got any sleep at night. I'd be up all night with residual insomnia, nursing and holding my brand new baby, and I thought I might as well do a little knitting. So I made C a pair of hand warmers. This is my own design, though I swiped the cable pattern from the Walker 3rd Treasury.
For C's handwarmers, I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in a nice avocado color, and I didn't have time to photograph them before I gave them to her. For this pair I used of Patons Classic Merino, much less than 1 full skein for the pair. You can see how much is left in the picture above.
This pair is bound for Steph. She's been going through a rough patch recently, and is scheduled for surgery this Friday. My wishes and thoughts for her good health went into every single stitch of these handwarmers, and I don't know if that makes a difference or if she'll even like them, but I had to do something for her, so I did this.
(I'll try and get instructions for these up within the week. I everything written out in my own cryptic notes, and as soon as I translate them for public consumption I'll post the pattern.)
