Stash Contaminants: Part Two

This is a sample of Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece from my personal stash. I like Cotton Fleece, actually. It's a blend of 80% pima cotton/20% merino wool, so the cotton kind to the skin, and the merino keeps things from getting too stretched out of shape. (If you're not a knitter and reading this, pure cotton can be lovely to work with, but it's not elastic and tends to be heavy and stretch out of shape. That little bit of wool helps even out those tendencies.)

So why, you may ask, would I qualify this as a "contaminant"? Because I have this odd assortment of colors and no more than 1, 2 or 3 skeins of any of them. The worst is that bright greenish stuff three in from the fuzzy end on the picture. It's called "mint" and doesn't look good with anything. I got it when Coyote Yarns was going out of business, and the mint was in a bag with some off-white stuff that I liked, and the whole thing was 50% off, so I thought "OK, what the hell?" and now I'm stuck with it. Alas, the perils of sale yarn. None of the rest are too atrocious, fortunately.

I've used up a little of this dubious collection in a couple of baby sweaters. Cotton Fleece is a great substitute for Debbie Bliss or Rowan DK cotton; last spring I made a Debbie Bliss raglan out of the nicer green for a friend who was moving away, and over the summer I made a Debbie Bliss cardigan with contrast ribbing and matching hat for friends expecting in August. (I'm a Debbie Bliss pattern whore. I can't help it. Don't ask how many of her books I own, because I won't tell you.)

What to do with the Cotton Fleece that's left? For some reason, I don't want it to fester in my stash any longer. I have a real urge to use it up and move on. I suppose I could make gobs of little baby sweaters. One skein is enough for a newborn size, maybe up to 3 months. I thought about making a Joseph-and-the-Amazing-Technicolor-Blanket of some kind, but this assortment of colors doesn't mesh too well, so I'd have to buy more to make it work, and that pretty much defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

Ideas, anyone?
